Karwendel valleys

  • Tristenautal
  • Falzthurntal
  • Gerntal

A place of true peace and solitude on your walking holidays is the Tristenautal Valley. There is no through road and there are no alpine huts. On a leisurely circular walking route of about 1.5 hours you can focus wholly on the forest and the Alps in beautiful Tyrol, Austria. It is not uncommon to catch sight of a deer or squirrel scurrying across the hiking path.
In the Falzthurntal Valley on the other hand it is bustling! A hiking trail and a road bring hikers and holidaymakers of all ages up to Falzthurnalm alpine pasture. Go hiking through the forest or alpine meadows – variety is a must.
The Gerntal Valley runs past the Pletzachalm alpine pasture to the Gernalm alpine pasture and is made accessible with hiking trails and roads. At the Gernalm there is a game reserve where you can observe beautiful wild creatures.

How warm is the water for swimming at Lake Achensee?
In summer, the water warms up to between 17 and 20 degrees. If it is very warm over a longer period of time, the water temperature can sometimes climb up to 22 degrees. For several years now, brave swimmers have been venturing into the Tyrolean Achensee at a water temperature of four or five degrees during the New Year's Eve swim.

Sailing, surfing, kitesurfing and SUP on Lake Achensee

Lake Achensee is particularly popular with sailors. The reason: its ideal wind conditions. In normal fair weather conditions, a thermal with a light southerly wind (1-2 Beaufort) in the morning and a strong northerly wind (3-5 Beaufort) in the afternoon forms between the towering Karwendel mountains in the west and the Rofan and Unnütz mountains in the east. Did you know? The Tyrolean water sports association Achensee  (SCTWV) is one of the largest sailing clubs in Austria, home to internationally renowned top sailors and organiser of national and international high-ranking regattas.

Surfers and kiters are very welcome at Lake Achensee and locals are not stingy with tips on the best spots. Those who are curious can make their first attempts with a kite at the Learn2Kite surf school.

The new SUP trend - stand-up paddling - has long since conquered Lake Achensee. If you don't have your own SUP with you, you can hire equipment at the Pertisau lido on Lake Achensee.

Look forward to an unforgettable active holiday in our Tyrolean region that combines both: the backdrop of the Alps and crystal-clear swimming fun. Book your accommodation at the 4-star Hotel Pfandler at Lake Achensee today - we look forward to welcoming you!
